The DART course

DART is a one day airway course in which you learn the skills to apply the Difficult Airway Society guidelines (DAS). DART has been ratified and endorsed by the Difficult Airway Society.

Since its inception by trainees in Bristol, the DART course has been delivered in multiple sites around the UK and even in Australia. The content is updated from course to course in response to feedback from attendees and to reflect changes in best practice.

We aim to provide training for healthcare professionals involved with airway management, taught through small group, hands on workshops. Delegates have previously included anaesthetists in all stages of training, ED staff, ODPs, anaesthetic nurses and ITU nurses. If you would like more information about the course, please email us at DARTCourse@gmail.com

We have updated the website with some airway guidance for managing COVID-19 patients

The next Primary FRCA DART course will be on the 2nd October 2020. This is aimed at novice anaesthetists, clinical fellows and those taking the Primary FRCA in the Severn Deanery and can be counted as one of your deanery primary study days. We will be running the curse remotely from Bristol to your base hospitals to allow for the deanery guidance on face to face teaching and COVID. In order to comply with this, you can only attend the course in your base hospital, and we are limited to five people per hospital.

Each location is limited to a maximum of 5 trainees and you must attend at your base hospital only.  To book a place please email anaesthesia.sw@hee.nhs.uk, stating your base hospital and whether you are happy for your email address to be forwarded to the course organisers.  If the course is oversubscribed trainees doing their Anaesthesia module will be prioritised.  For any trainees unable to attend there will be the opportunity to observe the day remotely.

If you are a trainer, our philosophy is to provide you materials and support the delivery of DART in your centre. Contact DARTCourse@gmail.com for further information
