DART-SIM goes live

E-mail Print PDF

On March 30th 2010 the pilot of the new DART-SIM course was run. The day was a huge success and has given us enthusiasm to roll out the training to all our local anaesthetists. Jon Gatward in particular put in a huge amount of work into the course and we're all really grateful to him.

We had decided that difficult airway simulation should focus on non-technical skills Evidence suggests these human factors are a far greater issue than the anaesthetist's skills in a crisis situation. The scenarios played out very interestingly and working with the ODPs was a breath of fresh air for many.

We have set May 17th as the date for the 'proper' DART-SIM course at BMSC. Booking details in the main menu.

In unrelated news, massive congratulations to the effervescent Fiona Kelly on her appointment as a consultant at the RUH xxx

DART goes North

SATS made their first forray into the wider World recently as we were invited to the inaugural BASDART course in Worcester. As part of our Big Picture plan to spread our training ethic around the World, we convinced Jim Brunning from the West Midlands Deanery to set up their own version of DART.

The course was exceptionally well managed and supported by a very enthusiastic faculty - well done to Jim and Sean. We hope this will be the start of a very special relationship in which we can share ideas and 'cross-pollinate' each other's training courses. Anyone else out there looking to set up a DART course? Feel free to study the materials on our website and get in touch for help!

Hot off the press:

Great news from the 2009 Group of Anaesthetists in Training (GAT) meeting....

Dr Howes represented SATS with his home-made endoscopy camera head. The presentation included a live nasendoscopy using the device projected onto the big screen.

The presentation was awarded the Registrar's Prize.

Another huge success for SATS.Thanks for everyone who supported me in this project.

Ben.
